London 2018

From Harry Potter Studios to the London Eye.

I have always wanted to visit London. If I am being completely honest, this is not even entirely about the history or culture, but simply because being a student of English literature I had read so much about it I felt I had to visit. In all our high school texts, whether it was Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, Shakespeare’s works or even Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, London/England was always in the text somehow.

Then there is the fact that I would consider myself a complete Potterhead and grew up watching Harry Potter. Wanting to visit the Warner Bros studio in London was another wish of mine and thus, I chose London for my next destination of travel.

In Fall of 2018, I flew from Toronto to London, England. Excited to get exploring right away, as soon as I checked into my hotel, I headed straight to central London.

Here, I visited Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, the Parliament Buildings and the London Eye, using the Underground to get everywhere of course. Below is a photographic tour of the first day.

Warner Bros Studios

The Harry Potter studios, also known as the Warner Bros studio in London, was the main event the next day.

The Studio features all of the props/sets and costumes used in the films.

Tower of London, Shakespeare’s Globe & Other Sights

On the final day in London, I wanted to complete more exploration of the central area, but this time around the Thames River and London Bridge. On my excursion I saw Charles Dicken’s Home, Harrods, High Park, Shakespeare’s globe, St.Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, and the Walkie Tower among other sights.

An Enriching Experience

The Telephone Box - London, October 2018

London was a lovely experience overall. In only three days I was able to explore quite a bit of the city, with the only complaint being that Big Ben, the city’s most famous landmark, was under construction. London delivers a very healthy balance of both the traditionally delightful English charm with a blend of diversity intersecting to create a beautiful and inspiring ambiance.

Getting around the city was also not an excessively difficult task. The Underground, although surprisingly more complicated than the Toronto subway which I am used to, was nonetheless simple to navigate.

For next time, I would be more interested in venturing to other cities around London, exploring perhaps Manchester, Oxford, and other famous cities. But until then, I have a lovely and memorable experience to reflect on as London was both delightful and especially beautiful during the fall time.
